Visitors to the Smugglers Adventure in St Clement’s Caves, Hastings will be able to enjoy a fun-packed programme of activities over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend (March 25th – 28th).
A special Tubman’s Trail is being set out throughout the caves where younger visitors will have to solve a series of written clues to try and track down the hidden Easter eggs.
In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries ‘tubmen’ was the nickname given to locals employed by smugglers to carry barrels – or tubs – of spirits from the beaches to their hiding places.
In addition to the Tubman’s Trail the caves are also asking visitors to take part in their Spot the Golden Egg prize draw.
Anyone who can find the Golden Egg, which will be hidden somewhere in the caves, will be in with the chance of winning a free family annual membership.
Deep in the heart of Hastings West Hill lies the Smugglers Adventure, acres of caverns that conceal the thrilling history of smugglers, bootleggers and warring bloodthirsty gangs.
Explore the labyrinth of secret tunnels and passages and discover the dangers and hardships that faced the Sussex smugglers of the eighteenth century.
More than 70 life-size characters, interactive displays, eerie lighting and sound effects and dramatic recreations bring this mysterious and often bloody world vividly to life – but beware there are surprises lying in wait round every dark corner.
